Disaster?

After I got so excited and announced to the world that we’re moving back to Mexico, things stopped going according to plan. First off the guys renting our place had their own personal disaster that meant their fourth person was no longer able to rent with them. Fortunately for them, he hadn’t yet signed the contract. Unfortunately for us, he hadn’t yet signed the contract so we were left a bit in limbo. They were adamant they still wanted the house and were willing to find a guarantor for the rent to persuade us to sign with just three names on the contract.

While this has given us some peace of mind, we’re still super stressed as it is only six weeks until we want to move and actually, we still don’t have a signed contract yet. They showed a couple of other friends around the house this week and one of them has agreed to move in with them (brave woman, moving in with three guys) but as yet they have all signed but haven’t all got their deposits in. If the deposit isn’t in by tomorrow they can sign a contract with a guarantor or we have said we’ll have to move the start date by a week. We really do need six weeks to close up shop here. Gulp. This is nerve racking.

Lists, everywhere

My mind is full of lists right now. We need to buy stuff, get rid of stuff, sign stuff, organise stuff. Argh, so much stuff to do and since I’m not working most of it is my responsbility.

Buy: flights, health insurance, house insurance, extra luggage allowance, suitcases, cheap cutlery (I love our cutlery, it was a gift from my parents. I am not leaving it here. I don’t care that it’s crazy to take knives and forks to Mexico). PLACE TO LIVE. WE NEED A PLACE TO LIVE. (have bought new beds for our office and kids’ room – for some reason adults don’t want bunks. Haven’t they seen Big?)

Get rid: toys (some to my parents’ place, some give away), books (some store away, some get rid), bunk beds.

Sign stuff: contract, council papers

Organise stuff: Somewhere to live, school, car, visa for Col, transport to and from airport, inform schools here, redirect mail

Did I mention we need somewhere to live? I’ll be getting in touch with our favourite realtors, David and Debora as soon as we sign a contract on our UK home but….

I’m pretty sure these lists could go on forever….what am I forgetting?

This is so familiar, although it’s a hundred times worse when you’re doing it long-term, I’m sure. We had so many lists, we had a list of lists. Our only approach was “we have to do it, it’s not an option not to”. That’s a lot of negatives but you get what I mean 😉

Couldn’t agree more. We really, really want to make this work, or at least have tried.

Think you’re forgetting to organise your massive leaving party 😉. (Is it really only 6 weeks?? 😥) xx
