About Mexico Cassie

Hi. I’m Cassie, a British travel blogger and writer who loves to roam around, exploring and enjoying the world. I live in Andalucía, Southern Spain (Alcalá de Guadaíra, to be precise) and am really enjoying exploring around my region. We moved to Spain in the summer of 2022 after six years of living in Mérida, Mexico and although we miss our life in Mexico desperately, we’re also absolutely smitten with Spain and are happily creating a new life for ourselves here.

I have endless enthusiasm for adventuring and for sharing my adventures through my writing and photography. I generally travel with my family, which includes two kids who also love to explore.

I like to think that I’m a level-headed hedonist. I want life to be fun, I refuse to let society dictate the terms of my life but I also care deeply about the state of our planet. I am a freelance writer and editor, working with clients all over the world. I work to pay for the fun. Like me, my writing is honest and sincere but also very enthusiastic and apparently, at times, silly. I see no reason why my own exploration of the world shouldn’t continue just because I have kids. Likewise, I see no reason why small kids shouldn’t be introduced to the world as early as possible.

I have written two books about Mexico, Moving to Mérida (fully updated in the summer of 2023), and Yucatán With Kids: A Travel Guide (available in Spanish and English). Both are available on Amazon.

Mexico Cassie Frequently Asked Questions

Do you use social media?

You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram. On these sites, I share thoughts about my experiences as well as tips about how to travel smart as well as some occasional political views that I should probably keep to myself.

Why did you take up blogging?

Because I love exploring and writing and always have. I love photography too. Mainly I’m an enthusiastic oversharer who loves to travel and explore.

Do your kids really like all the walking you make them do?

Haha. Truth time. One of them, yes. I can say 100% that one is as enthusiastic as I am. The other one complains but generally by the time we’re in full swing is happy and thankfully is able to examine their emotions and tell us that they’re glad we make them walk so much.

Are your kids in school full-time?

Oh yes. They always have been. We travel during school holidays, at weekends, and sometimes when I’m lucky I take trips with friends.

How do you afford to travel so much?

We work outside of blogging. I’m a freelance writer and editor and I’m working on making my blog earn money (help me do this by reading more, sharing it and using my affiliate links when you make purchases, pretty please). Also, we don’t live in luxury and we don’t travel in luxury. We look for good value hotels and restaurants, we eat picnics a lot when we travel.

What did you do before you were a travel blogger?

I worked in the third sector as a programmes manager. I’ve always edited and written, even when working for charities. I worked mainly in Africa (Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe) and the former Soviet Union (Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia) and the UK.

What languages do you speak?

English is my native language. I speak fluent Spanish. I used to speak fluent French but I haven’t used it for years. I also spoke conversational Hebrew and Russian and used to speak a little Kinyarwanda.

Will you ever go back to the UK?

That’s a tough question. I like to think we won’t ever live there again but I love visiting home. The UK is utterly and gorgeously beautiful and it will always have a place in my heart but I’m not a fan of the direction the country is taking right now. You can see how much I love London if you read the articles I’ve written about my ciy.

Why did you leave Mexico?

This was certainly a difficult decision. We lived in Mexico for six years and in the end, decided we needed to come back to Europe to be closer to family. We also have access to free education for our kids in Europe, which is nice.

How come you are able to live overseas?

We have EU passports as well as UK passports so we are able to live in Europe. Yippeeee.

How do I hire you as a writer/editor/travel planner?

Ah ha, thought you’d never ask. You can check out my specifics here or you can use the form below to get in touch.

I’m coming to your town, can we meet for coffee?

Honestly, unless we’re already chatting I’m probably going to say no here. Gotta be safety conscious, right?
