MexicoCassie Value Statement
We are living in strange times, so I want to be clear where I, MexicoCassie, and this blog stand.
✊🏾 I care deeply about the state of our planet and everyone living on it. My blog will always be a safe space that is committed to justice and equality as much as it is to ethical and responsible travel.
✊🏾 Here at this blog, we also support the end goal of dismantling the patriarchy in all its forms.
✊🏾 We stand for: bodily autonomy for every woman & for the rights of all members of the LGBTQIA+ family. We loudly proclaim that Black lives matter, that undocumented people must be respected, & that Indigenous peoples’ voices must be heard.
👂🏽 We know that our job is to listen & learn as we move through the world and to always be on a path of decolonisation of both our own thinking and that of people around us.

🇬🇧 🇲🇽 🇪🇸 I’m originally from the UK. I lived in Mexico for six years and in 2022, I moved to Spain.
🇲🇽 I try to ensure I’m in Mexico twice a year for extended lengths of time
📝 Like me, my writing is honest and sincere but also very enthusiastic and at times, silly
👧🏽 I have two kids who also love adventuring, which is lucky because they’d be miserable if they didn’t
📖 I have written two books: Moving to Mérida, and Yucatán With Kids: A Travel Guide (available in Spanish and English).
MexicoCassie Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use social media?
Yup, although not super willingly. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram. On these sites, I share thoughts about my experiences as well as tips about how to travel smart as well as some occasional political views that I should probably keep to myself. I also write on Substack.
Why did you take up blogging?
Because I love exploring and writing and always have. I love photography too. Mainly I’m an enthusiastic oversharer who loves to travel and explore.
Do your kids really like all the walking you make them do?
Haha. Truth time. One of them, yes. I can say 100% that one is as enthusiastic as I am. The other one complains but generally by the time we’re in full swing is happy and thankfully is able to examine their emotions and tell us that they’re glad we make them walk so much.
Are your kids in school full-time?
Oh yes. They always have been. We travel during school holidays, at weekends, and sometimes when I’m lucky I take trips with friends.
How do you afford to travel so much?
My blog earns money (help me do this by reading more, sharing it and using my affiliate links when you make purchases, pretty please). Also, we don’t live in luxury and we don’t travel in luxury. We look for good value hotels and restaurants, we eat picnics a lot when we travel.
What did you do before you were a travel blogger?
I worked in the third sector as a programmes manager. I’ve always edited and written, even when working for charities. I worked mainly in Africa (Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe) and the former Soviet Union (Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia) and the UK.
What languages do you speak?
English is my native language. I speak fluent Spanish. I used to speak fluent French but I haven’t used it for years. I also spoke conversational Hebrew and Russian and used to speak a little Kinyarwanda.
Will you ever go back to the UK?
That’s a tough question. I like to think we won’t ever live there again but I love visiting home. The UK is utterly and gorgeously beautiful and it will always have a place in my heart but I’m not a fan of the direction the country is taking right now. You can see how much I love London if you read the articles I’ve written about my city.
Why did you leave Mexico?
This was certainly a difficult decision. We lived in Mexico for six years and in the end, decided we needed to come back to Europe to be closer to family. We also have access to free education for our kids in Europe, which is nice.
How come you are able to live overseas?
We have EU passports as well as UK passports so we are able to live in Europe. Yippeeee.
How do I hire you as a writer/editor/travel planner?
Ah ha, thought you’d never ask. You can check out my specifics here or you can email me (hello@mexicocassie.com)
I’m coming to your town, can we meet for coffee?
Honestly, unless we’re already chatting I’m probably going to say no here. Gotta be safety conscious, right?
