Let’s Get Naked on Zipolite, Mexico’s Only Official Nudest Beach

Published by Cassie on

Sophie, a Brit living in Mexico City, was kind enough to send me a postcard when she took a trip to Zipolite beach in the state of Oaxaca. Did you know that Zipolite is Mexico’s first and only legal nudist beach?

How do you think she got on whipping off her clothes on the beach? I can’t decide if Brits are considered to be prim, or exhibitionists when it comes to nakedness. I’d say we’re more free with our bodies than north Americans but shyer than southern Europeans, generally. See what you think after reading this postcard.

Hey Cassie,

I’m sending you this postcard from Zipolite, the home of Mexico’s only legal nudist beach. And as I write this I have sand in places you can’t even imagine.

A few friends and I caught the bus to Zipolite from Oaxaca City, and en route we shared a bottle of mezcal for Dutch courage in anticipation of whipping our undies off when we arrived.

And, that’s exactly what we did when we finally made it to the gorgeous little town of Zipolite: we grabbed some beers, headed to the beach, and proceeded to take our clothes off while being careful not to make any eye contact with each other.

I’m on a quest for proper body confidence at the moment and I’m doing pretty well with it, but getting my boobs and ass out in front of three male friends (one of whom I had a mega crush on) really tested my limits. However, by day two of lounging about on one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen, it felt almost normal to be sun-creaming my lady bits in front of an audience.

After Zipolite I’m heading to Puerto Escondido for some more beach action (albeit this time with a bikini on). It only takes about two hours to get between the two towns so you could definitely do Zipolite as a day trip if you’re not quite ready for a full weekend of nakedness. Whatever you do, don’t bring the kids! There are tons of awesome beaches for kids in Oaxaca but probs not this one!

Either way, allow me to impart some wisdom on you: factor 20 suncream is not sufficient for parts of your body that have never before been exposed to the sun. OUCH.

Love,

Sophie!

Did you know that Oaxaca is home to some of Mexico’s best beaches?

I attended the infamous New Years Eve party at Shambhala a few years ago. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a more spiritual way to ring in the new year!

    Good tip, thanks.

I think you nailed it by saying Brits are definitely more free with their bodies then North Americans but aren’t quite as free as Southern Europeans. Getting your kit off in as nonchalant a way as possible in front of strangers is no easy feat. Having been to quite a few hot springs I’m getting more used to it, but a little dutch courage always helps. Brilliant idea – “Postcards from Mexico”.

Glad you like the series. And yes I’ve definitely seen that my sweeping statement rings pretty true.

Argh Sophie!

Oh no about the suncream! I have a feeling you must have a slightly red bottom! I hope it’s all healed by now. ?

Haha. I’d hope so. She’s back in the UK now.
